Our dog Nakita is a lab/ridgeback mix. It seems that up until a couple of months ago, the ridgeback in her has been dominant when it came to water. She didn't really like it and was very hesitant to go in. All of our friends with purebred labs had troubles getting their dogs out of the water while we couldn't get our dog in. However, do to some great bribing (putting some favorite toys just out of reach in the pond) she has come to enjoy the water. It started out slow and she would only go in if she could walk out in the water and start swimming. (see earlier post on June 4th with video) Now she runs full speed to get a good leap off the dock. The ridgeback dominance is history. Bring on the lab!
Her favorite thing to retrieve is a 2x4 . Most dogs like tennis balls - she likes building materials.
